Amazon is refreshing its Blink line with five new cameras, all open for preorder in the US. According to TechRadar’s report, the batch includes Blink’s first 4K camera, its first spotlight model and its first pan-tilt-zoom camera. Here is what was announced and what we would ask before putting any of them on a real property.

The five cameras

  • Blink Frontier XR+ ($199.99): built for large or remote properties. Amazon calls it its farthest-reaching camera yet, with up to 7,000 feet to the hub on a clear line of sight. It needs a Sync Module XR+, which is included in the price.
  • Blink Outdoor 2K XR+ ($149.99): a 115-degree field of view, reaching 800 feet from the Sync Module XR with obstructions or 2,700 feet with nothing in the way. The Sync Module XR is included.
  • Blink Mini 4K+ ($79.99): indoor or outdoor, 115-degree view, dual-band Wi-Fi 6 and two-way audio.
  • Blink Spotlight Cam 2K+ ($109.99): the first battery-powered Blink spotlight camera, so placement is not tied to an outlet.
  • Blink Mini Pan-Tilt 2K+ ($49.99): 350-degree pan, 115-degree tilt, and it follows motion. Outdoor use needs the separately sold Blink Camera Outdoor Adapter.

Availability, including Canada

All five can be preordered in the US. In Canada, the Mini 4K+ and Mini Pan-Tilt 2K+ are open for preorder, and the report says the Frontier XR+, Outdoor 2K XR+ and Spotlight Cam 2K+ will be available here too. No Canadian dates or prices were given. The article also gives no international timing for those three beyond Canada. Prices quoted are US prices.

What to check before you buy

  • Subscription features. The report says the Mini 4K+ needs a compatible Blink subscription plan for Smart Alerts such as person and vehicle detection. Price the plan in, not just the camera.
  • The range claims are line-of-sight numbers. The 7,000-foot figure assumes a clear path. The Outdoor 2K XR+ drops from 2,700 feet to 800 feet once things get in the way. Trees, outbuildings and a metal-clad shop will all count. Plan around the lower number.
  • The sync module is part of the system. The two long-range cameras each need their own module (XR+ or XR), and the article does not say whether they are interchangeable with the modules you may already own. Check before mixing them into an existing Blink setup.
  • Outdoor pan-tilt costs extra. Add the outdoor adapter to the $49.99 price.

What the report does not say

The article does not mention Matter, local storage, or Home Assistant support for any of these models, and we have not used them. If you run Home Assistant, treat integration as unconfirmed until the vendor or a reliable integration page says otherwise. Matter 1.5 added a camera device type, but a camera only works that way if the maker ships it and your controller supports it. Nothing here says Blink has done so.

Our usual advice for cameras holds. Ask whether video and alerts work without a cloud account, and what happens to your footage if a subscription lapses. If you want cameras that keep working through an internet outage, look for local access first and treat the vendor app as a bonus.

For an installed system, this is a preorder announcement, not a verdict. If you have a long driveway or an outbuilding that Wi-Fi cannot reach, the XR+ models are worth watching. For everyone else, wait for the Canadian listings, the real subscription terms and independent testing before committing.
